The breast of Sati — Tripurmalini, the goddess adorned with the three worlds, in the sacred city of Jalandhar in the Punjab plains.
Jalandhar Peetha enshrines the breast of Sati, and the Goddess is Tripurmalini — "she who is adorned with the three worlds (lokas)" — one of the most cosmic names given to any Peetha goddess, suggesting a deity who contains the entirety of creation within herself. The Bhairav is Bhishan (the Terrible). The temple is located in or near Jalandhar city, Punjab, making it the most accessible of the Peethas for pilgrims from the Punjab plains region.
Jalandhar is one of the ancient cities of the Doab (the land between two rivers) and has been continuously inhabited for over 5,000 years. The Shakti Peetha here connects to the ancient goddess traditions of the greater Punjab — a region that has always had a particularly strong Shakti devotional culture, expressed in the veneration of Vaishno Devi, Jwalamukhi, Chintpurni and Naina Devi alongside this lesser-known but canonical Peetha.
Jalandhar is very well connected: Jalandhar City and Jalandhar Cantt stations on the main Delhi-Amritsar railway line. By road: 1.5 hours from Chandigarh, 2.5 hours from Amritsar.
Year-round. Navratri is the principal festival. The Punjab autumn (October) and spring (March) are the most pleasant seasons.
Combine Jalandhar Peetha with the Devi Talab Mandir (Jalandhar's most famous temple complex) for a complete Jalandhar Shakti darshan.
The Breast of Goddess Sati fell at Jalandhar, consecrating this land as a Shakti Peetha. The Shakti here is Tripurmalini and the guardian Bhairav is Bhishan.
